BEDMINSTER >> A Philadelphia man has been arrested on felony drug charges after police found nearly 600 bags of suspected heroin and other drugs in his pants during a traffic stop.

Charles Shaw, 44, was charged on June 15 with multiple counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and related offenses following a joint investigation into Shaw’s drug-dealing activity.

During the first two weeks of June, investigators from the Bedminster Township Police Department and Bucks County Detectives conducted controlled purchases of suspected heroin from Shaw, who detectives learned had been selling heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine throughout Bucks County. Forty bags of heroin were seized as a result of the purchases.

Through investigation, police also determined Shaw had used a residence in the 3600 block of Bedminster Road, Bedminster Township, to package drugs.

Believing Shaw had just left the residence, township police and county detectives stopped Shaw’s vehicle on June 15 on Route 113 in Bedminster Township.

While taking Shaw into custody, detectives noticed a bulge in the crotch area of Shaw’s pants. The bulge was found to be two large black bags containing 590 bags of suspected heroin, seven bags of suspected crystal methamphetamine, seven bags of cocaine, 10 suspected oxycodone pills and 11 buprenorphine pills.

District Judge Michael W. Gallagher arraigned Shaw on his charges and set bail at 10 percent of $200,000.

Plumstead Township Police, Tinicum Township Police, Falls Township Police and Hilltown Township Police assisted in the investigation.

Assistant District Attorney Laurie Moore has been assigned to prosecution.
