WRIGHTSTOWN >> Lightning sparked a fire that destroyed a house on Mud Road over the weekend in Wrightstown Township.
Nearby residents reported hearing an explosion when the house was struck as a severe thunderstorm was moving through the area around 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 29.
Fire was showing from the roof of the house in the 500 block of Mud Road when firefighters arrived.
The volunteers immediately went to work, attacking the fire from the ground and from above with hose lines to surround and drown the blaze.
Tankers 71 and 81, along with several other mutual aid tankers, helped deliver more than 70,000 gallons of water to the scene of the fire, according to the Upper Makefield Fire Company FaceBook page.
The Lingohocken Fire Company directed the fire scene and was assisted by the Newtown Fire Association, the Upper Makefield Fire Company, the Newtown Ambulance Squad and Central Bucks EMS.
No one was injured in the fire and, according to reports, the homeowners had safely evacuated the house before fire crews arrived.
