BRISTOL BOROUGH >> Bristol Riverside Theatre announces the appointment of Kevin Maroney as Managing Director following a national search conducted by Management Consultants for the Arts, Inc.
Maroney comes to BRT following five years at Baltimore Center Stage where, working closely with Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah, he provided vital leadership as the organization set box office records and completed a $28 million capital campaign building project. Other responsibilities included supervising the organization’s transitions during the 12-month construction period, facilitating the company’s residency relationship with Towson University, coordinating a professional internship program, and serving as community advocate with executive and legislative offices at the local, state and federal levels. With a BA from Seton Hall University and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, he is also a Certified Fundraising Executive from CFRE International. A former nationally-certified EMT, Wilderness EMT and Technical Rescue Instructor, he boasts additional skills in emergency and situational awareness training.
“After a comprehensive six-month search, the Board is delighted to welcome Kevin into the BRT family,” said Board President William J. Salerno. “Kevin’s broad experience and versatility, combined with his business acumen, adaptability and boundless energy, are just the right combination to move BRT into the future.”
“I am thrilled to have Kevin join the BRT team,” continued Artistic Director Kevin Baker. “His proven ability to energize and inspire various constituents – staff, funders, and patrons – will be vital to our continued success.”
“I am honored to join BRT at this exciting time in its history and to partner with the Board of Directors, Susan Atkinson, Keith Baker and the staff to build upon the strengths of the organization. I look forward to working with such a passionate and committed team and to immersing myself in the dynamic and rich Philadelphia cultural community,” said Maroney.
BRT concludes its mainstage season with the farcical period-piece musical Triumph of Love, based on the play by Marivaux, with book by James Magruder, music by Jeffrey Stock, and lyrics by Susan Birkenhead on May 1-20. Set in the 18th century, Triumph of Love follows the ruthless Princess Leonide as she literally wears the pants so her beloved Agis can return to his rightful throne. It’s not her fault if this deceptive dress-up causes the entire household to fall in love with her! With her confidante, Corine, by her side, Leonide must rescue her man before his stuffed-shirt uncle and sourpuss aunt find out who’s really beneath those ever-changing bodices and breeches. This tongue-in-cheek musical is a delightful celebration of springtime romance.
Since 1986, BRT has continued to bring critically acclaimed professional theatre to Bucks County. The theatre is the recipient of over 68 Barrymore Award nominations for Excellence in Theatre, given annually by Theatre Philadelphia. Under the direction of Artistic Director Keith Baker and Founding Director Susan D. Atkinson, the theatre serves as a cultural hub for the community. In addition to its Mainstage productions, BRT offers four concerts including the holiday tradition An American Christmas Songbook, the new play development series America Rising, and the summer theater arts camp ArtRageous.
