Bucks County Democrats endorse Kathy Boockvar for U.S. Congress in the 8th District
DOYLESTOWN – The Bucks County Democratic Committee has endorsed Kathy Boockvar as its candidate to run against U.S. Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (R).
The Bucks County Democratic Committee held its annual endorsement meeting at Klinger Middle School in Southampton where it endorsed its 2012 slate of Federal, State and county candidates.
Boockvar, an attorney and mediator from Doylestown, announced her candidacy in January.
“I’m running for Congress because Bucks and Montgomery counties deserve a representative who will put people first, and not fall into the mire of partisan politics, hostility, and obstruction that have been so prevalent in Washington,” said Boockvar. “We need an independent voice, and a representative who has spent her career working for the people of Pennsylvania.”
Boockvar began her career as a legal services attorney. She later owned and managed a small business in Bucks County for more than a decade, representing Pennsylvanians in a wide range of cases, including employment, disability, pensions and benefits, and wills and estates.
“Washington has changed Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, who has put aside the best interest of our district, and instead has spent the past year voting with the Tea Party to end Medicare, cut benefits to veterans, gut environmental protections, and deny tax breaks for the middle class, all for partisan power politics,” said Boockvar.
“I am running for Congress, with the same motivation as has always driven me: public service. I mean that literally - serving the people,” continued Boockvar. “So many people are having trouble supporting their families, covering their college tuition, and paying for their prescriptions, while our current Congress does nothing. Even worse, Fitzpatrick and his fellow Tea Party politicians are mired in hostility, focused only on party politics and obstruction, refusing to compromise for the good of the people. That’s not representing the people of Bucks and Montgomery counties. I pledge that I will spend every day working for the people of Bucks and Montgomery County, and will never let partisan politics get in the way of doing what’s right for the families that depend on us.”
Boockvar has more than 18 years of experience in Pennsylvania state and federal courts. She was named a Super Lawyer Rising Star of the Pennsylvania Bar three years in a row. She has worked throughout Pennsylvania, including in both urban and rural areas, and is a member of the Bucks County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Boockvar is also a trained mediator, and serves on the Board of Directors of A Woman’s Place, a Bucks County domestic violence organization. She lives in Doylestown with her husband Jordan, 13-year-old daughter Colette, and their dog Zoie.
In addition to Boockvar, the 201 members of the Bucks County Democratic committee and the membership made the following endorsements: Bob Casey for U.S. Senate, Patrick Murphy for PA Attorney General, Rob McCord for PA Treasurer and Eugene DePasquale for PA Auditor General. Continued...
“The Democratic Party energy of the Bucks County Democratic Committee is extremely high. We are ready to get back in the fight and defend the President’s exceptional record of accomplishment during this highly-partisan time,” said Bucks County Democratic Committee Chairman John F. Cordisco.
“The nation will face a very stark choice this November,” continued Cordisco. Our Democratic vision and policies have reversed the damage created under the last Republican administration and brought us out of the depths of the great recession, created millions of private sector jobs, expanded access to health insurance, and increased civil rights. Republicans are going to have a very difficult time convincing voters that returning to their trickle down, tax breaks for the wealthy approach can do anything but return us to the economic morass they created when they were last in charge. I like our slate, I like our odds.”
