Pennsbury senior forward/midfielder Mia Reed has recently committed to Division I Temple University, where she plans to play field hockey next fall.
The Owls finished their fall campaign at 8-11 overall, 4-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. With a 4-2 win over Richmond in its regular season finale, Temple claimed a berth in the A-10 tournament where the Owls recorded a 3-0 victory over St. Joseph’s and a 3-0 loss to Richmond in the A-10 title game.
Reed finished her final high school campaign with 15 goals and 7 assists, highest at Pennsbury and second leading in the Suburban One League (SOL) National Conference.
At the end of the season, one that saw the Lady Falcons (16-7-1) claim a fifth place finish in districts and a berth in states, Reed was named to the SOL National Conference first team.
“Mia has been a major contributor in the midfield and on offense,” stated Pennsbury head coach Brooke Bergmann. “We rely on her to help us get the ball up the field and her stick skills have improved tremendously.
“She is very active in the circle, especially after corners,” continued the coach. “She's scored several huge goals for us. Many of them have been in key situations that have helped us get big wins.”
Reed scored both goals Oct. 28 in the Falcons’ 2-0 second round district win over Strath Haven. Pennsbury also recorded district playoff wins over Academy Park (7-0), Downingtown West (1-0) and Radnor (1-0).
Reed, meanwhile, is the second Lady Falcon to commit to a D-I field hockey program this season. Senior Jennalise Taylor committed to Quinnipiac University at the end of the summer.
Mia has also been selected to play for the Philadelphia All-Star team that competes this weekend (Dec. 5-6) at Temple.
