ELECTION'09: Morrisville: ‘Stay on Track’ slate voted onto school board

By Petra Chesner Schlatter; BucksLocalNews.com

For the Morrisville School Board race, four seats were up for grabs and the Republicans swept the Nov. 3 election with their four candidates garnering the most votes.

The Republicans had called themselves the “Stay on Track” slate, while the four Democrats used the name “Morrisville Pride.”

Two incumbents, who were part of the “Stay on Track” team, retained their seats. They are John Buckman and Brenda Worob.

Buckman received 863 votes or 13.5 percent of the vote. Worob garnered 844 votes or 13.2 percent of the vote.

Next in line is John DeWilde with 831 votes or 13 percent. Ronald Stout received 817 votes.

Running on the “Morrisville Pride” slate were Jack Beck with 785 votes and 12.3 percent of the vote. Damon Miller received 756, Jermaine Jenkins received 750, and David Stoneburner came in eight place, with 748 votes.

“We all won,” said Buckman, speaking of the “Stay on Track” slate. “That’s a rare occasion when all the candidates win. We were hoping that would happen.”

Buckman said he is happy about winning, but that he is “happier for the people in the town.” He said the board has “been able to keep things under control” while maintaining education.

Buckman said the board will review engineering studies for the schools. He said one of the key issues is what to do with M.R. Reiter Elementary School.

Regarding the modular classrooms at Grandview Elementary School, Buckman said the insurance company will soon stop paying for them. The board, he said, needs to consider other options. Would there be an addition to Grandview? he asked.

“When we get the studies back, we are going to make decisions – what will be best for the students’ education at a reasonable cost for the taxpayer?” he said.

Buckman said the “biggest priority is to come up with some decisions about what we’re going to do with the schools…You have the modulars – we’re going to start paying for them. [We] would like to try to resolve something – at least have something to work on to accomplish those missions. We want to get in the process on those things.”

Worob, DeWilde and Stout could not be reached at presstime.
